Hi Matt, thanks for taking the time to have a chat! To kick things off, please tell us a bit about your background.

Matt: I trained as a Graphic Designer at Enmore Design Centre in Sydney — eventually graduating top of my class in mid 2012. Studying Graphic Design gave me a real solid understanding of the foundations of design (Typography, colour, layout etc) though I took more to the web based component which put me on the path to what I do today.

How did you get involved working on TripGo?

Matt: I received an email from SkedGo (at the time Buzz Hives) around the time I finished studying asking whether I was interested in having a chat. Not long after, I caught up with them and thought their vision was interesting. I’ve been contracting with them ever since.

Great, sounds like you’re enjoying it! What’s your role at SkedGo?

Matt: I work on anything and everything design related. On any single day I could be working on updates to the TripGo app for iOS and Android or making some changes to this very website. Being a small(ish) team means you have to be open to helping out wherever you’re needed.

Describe a ‘day in the life’ for us. What is it like working on TripGo?

Matt: I’m lucky that I get to work from home most days so I’m flexible when it comes to how I work. I like to start early and get on top of things by lunch. I’m usually ready to get away from the computer for a while so I try to combine lunch with an exercise break; when you work from home it’s all too easy to not leave the house for days. Then it’s back to my desk to finish what ever didn’t get done in the morning. Most days are different though so you’ve got to take them as they come.

How do you keep on top of the latest in apps and design?

Matt: I’ve found Twitter really is the best way to keep up. If there’s anything worth hearing about, odds are that someone will share it. Keep an eye out for the influencers in your particular industry, it’s a good way to filter out all the noise.

What’s your best productivity hack?

Matt: I like to get organised for the day the night before. That way I’ve got a good idea of what I’ll be working on as soon as I sit down. As an added benefit it gets you subconsciously thinking through any problems you might face.

And your best tip for traveling smarter?

Matt: I love being organised. Plan transfers, plan things to do, get all your documents together etc before you set off. Hopefully by the time your trip comes around you’re on top of things; travelling is meant to be enjoyable after all!

Just for fun: What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?

Matt: I love to cook. I try to make a new dish each week, though that doesn’t always happen…

And lastly: What are you most excited about coming up for TripGo in the future?

Matt: I love the real-time feature we have on Sydney trains and buses. I’m excited to see support for that grow and reach into other locations.

Thanks Matt!
