Feonix — Mobility Rising

In collaboration with Feonix – Mobility Rising, SkedGo is developing easy-to-use MaaS applications with advanced accessibility features, integration of local on-demand transport services, a mobility wallet, and easy to use admin dashboards for the transport service providers who do not have sophisticated ride scheduling technology. The projects aim to bring together all operators in one region and provide easy access to their services to the local community.

Who is the client?

Feonix – Mobility Rising is a non-profit company working with transit authorities, community based organisations and major corporations to bring mobility services to solve transportation barriers for underserved populations. The problem

Public transportation in rural areas suffers from a variety of issues, such as lack of infrastructure, poor economic viability for providers resulting in often higher costs for passengers as well as infrequent and few services each day. Often, the issue for users is made worse by poorly publicised transport options, meaning that even if services are available, potential users might not be aware of them.

Similarly, users with a variety of disabilities often struggle with access to transport. A variety of problems, e.g. lack of access or information for wheelchair users, lifts breaking down, unusable footpaths, crowded vehicles etc can create unsurmountable barriers for users with special needs.

The solutions

The SkedGo API powered apps enable users to book rides for the local paratransit system in a ‘one stop shop’ for transport options. They bring together all the rural and urban transit agencies as well as organisations like rural senior centres. Users can see the services available as well as times and costs, without the need to make phone calls to enquire. Rather than waiting in a phone queue for long periods, often causing anxiety apart from the associated inconvenience and time loss, users experience the freedom of being able to book a ride any time, anywhere. Transport can be explored and booked with a single ride request, even when multiple agencies are involved.

Working with Feonix, SkedGo developed solutions that work for the transport providers as well as the users. Often, transportation agencies in rural areas are small and don’t have sophisticated APIs; the technology SkedGo provided ensured that they didn’t need to change how they operated. The apps also provide enhanced accessibility to users, such as compatibility with screen-readers, adjustable text size and contrasts, voice control etc.

The overarching goal: to break down barriers to improve quality of life for thousands of Americans.

Current projects include the N4 project in northern Nevada, the MI Ride project in Michigan and Arrowhead Transit in Minnesota.
