Leicester, UK – 30 March 2022: Global Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) technology company SkedGo is today announcing a contract with Leicester City Council to strengthen sustainable and active travel in the region.
The deal sees the launch of two Android and iPhone apps as part of the Choose How You Move initiative, offering an easy-to-use journey planner that incorporates public transport, e-bikes from Santander Cycles, Park and Ride spaces, taxis, cycling and walking routes. Active travel is a key goal of Leicester City Council’s Transport Recovery Plan, supporting residents to reduce their car use.
Harvey Blundell, assistant transport development officer, Leicester City Council, says: “We are delighted to be able to bring the latest journey planner technology to Leicester, and to give people the tools they need to make informed decisions about how they get from A-B on a daily basis.
“By breaking down the barriers to sustainable transport, and by making alternative modes and multi-modal journeys as accessible as possible, we are delivering on our commitments to address the climate emergency and to reduce air pollution, while also making the city a better place to live, work, and visit.”
John Nuutinen, CEO of SkedGo, adds: “MaaS doesn’t have to be complicated. Our widget and white label solutions are a perfect tool for local governments to quickly and efficiently act on their sustainability and social equity commitments.
“We have built a strong focus on active travel, for example bike-friendly routing, into our technology and are constantly improving our accessibility features. New clients can easily tap into these resources, which have been tried and tested over years.
“It’s great to see Leicester at the forefront of MaaS in the UK and we are very excited to build on our existing offering for the community for a wider audience.”
Choose How You Move is a partnership project between Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council, funded by the Department for Transport. The free Choose How You Move App is now available to download in Apple and Google stores. Leicester is the largest city in the East Midlands and the tenth largest in the country, with a population of more than 600,000.
