Public transport will make the difference to climate change, says SkedGo

London, UK – 2 December 2019: Public transport and urban mobility must be the backbone of efforts to reduce global carbon emissions, says mobility as a service (MaaS) tech-enabler SkedGo.

Speaking on Monday 2 December at Smart City and Urban Mobility Summit 2019 in London, Sandra Witzel, Head of Marketing at SkedGo, said: “Transport is responsible for nearly 30% of European carbon emissions.* As we strive to reduce humanity’s impact on the environment, it is crucial that governments, manufacturers and transport authorities act now to persuade passengers away from private cars and towards public transport and shared forms of mobility.

“MaaS works to simplify the health, financial and environmental benefits of greener travel and by doing so, travellers are more likely to consider their transport decisions.”

Since it was founded in Sydney in 2009, SkedGo has integrated thousands of transport service operators into its MaaS platform, covering hundreds of cities worldwide. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, SkedGo has transformed from an Australian start-up to a recognised global leader in the routing and trip planning space.

Witzel added: “MaaS provides a huge opportunity to change our interaction with transport for the better, embracing the benefits of shared and sustainable modes. With the right infrastructure, integrated mobility will benefit passengers through connected, seamless journeys while reducing CO2 levels to fight climate change. We’re already seeing the benefits of MaaS across Europe and look forward to seeing more cities adopt new mobility models.”

Through its TripGo API (Application Programming Interface) and SDK (Software Development Kit) tools; including TripKit for iOS and Android, SkedGo provides organisations with the building blocks to rapidly build their own multi and mixed modal MaaS offering. The result is an end-to-end experience for their passengers including journey and event planning, ticket purchase, parking and car hire, as well as complete corporate mobility solutions.
